UPMC McKeesport is in the valley of the historic Monongahela River -- the Mon Valley. Founded in 1894, UPMC McKeesport is a nonprofit acute care community hospital that serves the 200,000 residents of McKeesport and the surrounding area. The hospital offers 216 beds for acute care patients and 56 beds for patients who need skilled nursing care. Over the years UPMC McKeesport has had significant success in receiving national recognition for its quality initiatives and excellent outcomes. These awards include: The John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, the Solucient 100 Top Hospital Awards, and The Sodexho Community Spirit Award. Also in both 2006 and 2007, UPMC McKeesport received a national award for clinical excellence placing UPMC McKeesport in the top five percent of hospitals in the nation. In addition, the hospital was awarded continued accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO); and due to exceptional outcomes, we have been recognized as a leader in Quality Check (a comprehensive guide to hospital performance measure results).

The hospital’s merger with UPMC in April 1998 provides access to UPMC’s state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional capabilities and its extensive roster of specialists.

The hospital sponsors five residency programs: Family Medicine, Family Medicine/Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Osteopathic Family Medicine, Osteopathic Internship. The hospital serves as a superb training site for the residents. In its commitment to remain a state of the art facility, there are continual advances in the latest medical technology.
